General Information and Grading:

This course is designed to help students to learn skills they will be using for the rest of their professional life, such as technical English and information acquisition. We will start with a brief but useful review of the grammatical structure of English sentences. Next we will try a few e-journals and newsletters to get a taste of the kind of information available on the Internet. Techniques to locate information on Internet with search engines, FAQs, etc., will also be discussed. We will also discuss library collections important to information engineering students and professionals. Discussion of technical English reading skill will be made using these materials throughout the entire course.

Students are required to complete several individual assignments and a term paper in this course. All assignments need to appear in the form of web pages on the course server, freefall.csie.isu.edu.tw, for fellow students to read. Accounts and passwords will be handed out later in class.
