Vocabulary Building Assignment

Lack of a proper vocabulary is a serious problem to the majority of our students. Unfortunately, it is also a problem that the lectures will not be able to help. In order to give you enough incentives to start building your vocabulary, I designed this semester-long vocabulary building assignment that is worth 10% of the total grade.

A graduate student of mine has written a dictionary system (http://dict.csie.isu.edu.tw) where a registered user can enter a new word along with its part of speech, meaning, and sentence in which the word is found. The system also allows one to look up a word from either one’s private word list or all words in the system. My intention is to create a platform where students in our department can build a csie-related vocabulary collectively.

Your account has already been set up. Please visit the site and start using it ASAP. Your grade for the assignment will depend on how many words and examples you add to the system during the semester.

Lecture Recording

Starting this week lectures will be recorded and made available on the streaming server http://streaming.isu.edu.tw. Go to 節目介紹,find 科技英文 near the end of the list,  and click on 影片列表. The streaming service is available 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, and you may watch as many times as you like. Those in Class A may even watch Class C’s recordings as a preview of the upcoming lectures.

3/3/2005

Assignment 2

Do the two exercises listed in §1.6 on the notes. You should list each sentence in the articles separately followed with your answer. The deadline is midnight March 8 for Class C and midnight March 10 for Class A.

3/3/2005

Assignment 1

Read and explain the sample text as much as possible in one hour. Turn in your assignment to http://140.127.194.140. Those who do not have an account on that server should apply for one first. The deadline in midnight March 8 for both classes.

Notes v 0.5
